What we are Fundraising for This Year.
This year, we need to build and equip two more classrooms, two toilets, expand our dining area, create a new play area, purchase a new school bus and much more to cater for our growing student body. These will be largely built by the parents (apart from the bus!) as a way of contributing to their children’s education and keeping our costs low.
Individual donations will help to cover the costs of the following items:
Minibus
Minibus | 1/12 payment | $3,942 |
Minibus | ¼ payment | $11,825 |
Minibus | total cost | $47,300 |
The purchase of a second bus is important. Many children are not close to either compound and even with a bus will still need to walk to a bus stop. But the purchase of the bus makes school accessible. Without our own buses we are forced to rely of government rental buses which are less safe, (no seatbelts for example), less reliable and, of course, are more costly in the long term.
Outdoor furniture:
Qty | Each | Total | |
Dining benches | 10 | $45 | $450 |
Trestle tables | 5 | $65 | $325 |
See-saw | 1 | $130 | $130 |
Classroom floor mat (4M x 4M) | 6 | $315 | $1,890 |

As we are increasing our student intake, we need to provide more benches and tables for the school meals. The new classrooms will need some floor covering and the see-saw will be for our KG kids. Donations for the above will help make that possible.
IT support
Qty | Each | Total | |
Ipad 4 | 10 | $600 | $6,000 |
Ipad cover | 10 | $60 | $600 |
At the school of St Yared we have decided to pursue Ipads rather than desktops or laptops. We have made this decision based on robustness, space, educational value and portability. We currently have a handful of Ipads and they are already transforming the way teachers teach. For a start they can now show images of volcanoes or gorillas as well as science videos and the kids can trace letter formation in phonics. We would love to have a set of Ipads that could be for shared class use.
Classroom furniture

Building construction
Qty | Each | Total | |

Toilet cubicle | 4 | $400 | $1,600 |
As we increase our student intake, we will need to construct 2 new classrooms. And 2 new toilet cubicles. These will be largely built by the parents as a way of contributing to their children’s education and keeping the costs low.
Rent and utilities
Compound 1 | Cost/month: | $2,000 |
Compound | Cost/month: | $2,500 |
Rent and utilities are not very dynamic resources to donate to. But without them we would not be able to function. We are in the (complex) process of purchasing our own land but will need to rent for the next 2 years.
