Selam Hayle

Meet SelamSalemH1

Selam is a very smiley five year old who is about to begin her education at The School of St Yared. She is excited to make friends in her KG class.

Selam Hayle lives in Farensay, an slum area in the foothills of Addis Ababa. She lives with her mother, Tigist and her sister. Tigist is a street vendor, selling injera and vegetables on the roadside. She earns a couple of hundred birr ($7-12) per week which she uses to pay rent for their small room, and staple food for her daughters.

Selam spends a lot of time on the street with her mother, and is very excited to make friends in her Kindergarten class at The School of St Yared.

SalemH2Selam’s father is not around, and Tigist is illiterate.

This means she realises more than ever, the importance of a quality education for her daughter to improve not only her life, but the life of her family too.

We would love you to join with us in changing lives.
